  Gliding on the ice felt like flying, like they were somewhere far away where there were no parents and school didn’t matter and the whole world was dark ice and glittering snow that trailed after them as they raced. He would look at Lily, and she would look at him and it felt like they were the only people on earth.

  They went every year, a tradition so ingrained into their friendship that Severus can't imagine a year without it.

Most kids made glittery picture frames or salt dough ornaments, felt stockings or construction paper snowflakes. He didn’t know what to make, so he sat in the corner and pushed around the wooden beads on his desk.

  Texas was a jarring change. It was hot in the Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring and when it wasn't boiling hot, it was hailing or flooding. Well, that wasn't fair. The weather could be kind, clear and sunny with a cool breeze, the kind of breeze that he relished blowing through the window in his potions lab in the afternoon.
  
  He had grown used to the Texan heat, the Cedar fever he didn't even know was a thing, the sounds of children playing outside at all hours and his overly kind neighbors.

  Harry was a child. He wasn't really cognizant of that, mostly that it was dark and he was cold and a big bright light had scared him. Big people had left him outside cuddled up in a blanket and left and he was confused. His nose crinkled as he fussed and he was about to start crying when a large shape flew over him, casting a shadow that blanketed him. 2 more shapes broke off from the large one as it circled over him. One came down to him, a pretty scaly thing that looked like the drag ons that flew on the walls in his room.

  Even at the age of 6, Xari knew he was different from his brothers, Xilyl and Sicsi. They were larger than him and ate much more meat than he could stomach and had the prettiest scales and almost always beat him when they wrestled. He was soft and smaller, his claws were thin, his paws were covered in thick dark skin from walking all fours and he had no scales to speak off, just long fur on his head and eyes just like mama.


• Kittys gen - multi-chapter (2) - unfinshed - Harry hated having to be human. It was so bothersome, being unable to communicate with a twitch of a tail or ear, not being able to smell the emotions or intentions of another. He could never understand his uncle or aunt and especially not his cousin, they were much to loud and mean and violent for him. He never knew why he would get in trouble or what his uncle meant when he said one thing but meant another, it was just too complicated. When he discovered he could change his shape, everything was so much better.
